304 - Request to Restore

Updated on

Request to Restore

The path for users who may ask for a restore but not perform one — and why you will not find it in the database.

A user who belongs to RequestRestoreGroup but not RestoreGroup does not see a Restore option. They see Request to Restore, which sends an email to a predefined group and does nothing else.

Warning A Request to Restore never reaches ArchiveRequests. Nothing is queued and nothing is audited. Searching the request table for a restore that a user swears they asked for will find nothing, because nothing was ever raised.

The email template

request-restore-email-template.txt in the StubFiles folder. It supports four variables:

  • {C1alias} — normally Client
  • {C1Description} — normally Client Name
  • {C2alias} — normally Matter
  • {C2Description} — normally Matter Name

Note Someone at the firm has to own that mailbox. A Request to Restore that nobody reads is indistinguishable, from the user's side, from a restore that silently failed.
